Handmade in our Workshop in Marseille, our eco dishwasher powder is a natural and safe alternative which will leave your dishware clean and shiny.
With its short composition and powdered format, it is very effective to remove tough stains. You can dose according to your needs and water hardness, therefore saving money at the same time.
Our Camargue salt dishwasher powder can be used for all types of dishwasher cycles, even short or low-heat ones. It is efficient as of 40°C.
Our dishwasher powder will remove grease, descale, and leave your dishware nice and shiny. Made from fully biodegradable raw materials of natural origin, our zero waste dishwasher powder is packed in a brown paper bag, also biodegradable.
Without any protective films or perfumes, your dishware will simply smell clean!
A short but efficient recipe
Just like all our products, our dishwasher powder is only made out of four ingredients. The raw materials used are of natural origin and biodegradable. Fully aware that ingredients in classic detergents aren’t clearly indicated, we decided to present them in an entirely transparent way.
- Citric acid: a natural and biodegradable acid made through glucose syrup fermentation. It descales and regulates water pH, while also being antilimescale and antioxidant. This natural agent will leave a nice shine on your dishware. Origin Austria.
- Soda crystals: obtained from salt and chalk. This powder, soluble in water, is an alkaline cleaner which softens water. This natural surfactant is also an excellent degreasing agent that saponifies grease by removing fat from dishware. Origin France.
- Sodium percarbonate: a surfactant composed of a mixture of hydrogen peroxide (oxygen-based bleach) and calcium carbonate. Once mixed with warm water, it releases its potential. This descaling ingredient has both detergent and whitening properties. Origin Germany.
- Camargue salt: made from saline from the Camargue region, this ingredient will avoid white spots on your dishes. Indeed, it softens the water by eliminating the lime present. Origin France.
What they don’t tell you about industrial dishwasher detergents
Unlike cosmetic products, which have mandatory INCI lists, it is very difficult to find out exactly what detergents are made from. Generally speaking, only an approximation is given in percentages on the product’s pack along with possible allergens.
Irritating or even toxic products for our health and/or the environment are often hidden in the components.
Here are a few frequent examples:
- Phosphonate is an antiscale and water stabiliser which is hardly biodegradable. From the same family as phosphates, they remain toxic as they aren’t biodegradable and are hard to process in water treatment plants. They are also responsible for eutrophication in watercourses and the death of many marine species.
- Non-ionic surfactants aren’t charged and are often used as emulsifiers. These surfactants are suspected of being endocrine disruptors when they are synthetic (ethoxylated alcohols, alkanolamides, alkylphenol ethoxylate).
- Enzymes are proteins (proteases, lipases, and amylases) that are often GMO (genetically modified organisms) and therefore a risk for our health and the environment.
- Chlorine based products and EDTA (ethyl enediaminetetra acetic acid) don’t break down easily and have heavy environmental consequences.
As you can see, the current situation isn’t at its best...
How to use our dishwasher powder?
We recommend using one tbsp for a normal wash and two for dirtier dishes (≈ 20g per spoon). To be the most eco-friendly possible, it is recommended to turn your diswasher on only once it is full and to use low-temperature cycles. If needed, you can also add eco regenerating salt and rinsing liquid.
Remember to remove any food waste from your plates and crockery before placing them in the dishwasher. Then, you simply need to take the amount of powder needed and to place it directly in the dishwasher, you don't necessary need to put it in the small compartment.
As our powder is anhydrous, meaning it doesn’t contain any water, it can be kept for a long time. We recommend placing it out of the reach of children and in a sealed container, a glass jar for example, to protect it from humidity.
Both economical and ecological
With our dishwasher powder is packed in a biodegradable brown paper bag. It also doesn’t have any plastic wrapping, as you would find on classic dishwasher tabs.
These water-soluble sachets, which protect the tabs from the damp, are often made out of polylactic, PLA, or polyethylene.
Even though they melt in water, it is still plastic and will break down in nanoparticles. Not ideal!
Frequently asked questions
Will the powder damage my dishwasher?
Of course not. With a pH of 10, it is ideal for dishwashers and pipework.
Does the dishwasher powder clean everything?
Just like for all dishwashers, it is recommended to avoid fragile crockery such as porcelain, crystal or hand-painted tableware, wood, silver, copper, or aluminium.
Can the dishwasher powder also be used with hard water?
Yes, our powder can also be used if you have hard water. Depending on where you live and the water hardness, you can adjust the amount of powder used. The less hard the water is, the less powder is needed. If your water is very hard, you can also use eco regenerating salt.
Is your dishwasher powder compatible with septic tanks?
Our dishwasher powder is perfectly suitable for septic tanks.
What is more eco-friendly: washing-up by hand or using the dishwasher?
It depends on your machine or how much water you use when you are washing-up by hand! Generally speaking, a good dishwasher uses 10-12L of water per wash, whereas by hand around 40L of water are needed.
If you use a dishwasher, you need to bear in mind the electrical consumption. The higher the temperature, the more electricity is going to be needed. On average, a dishwasher needs 1 kWh per cycle. This is less than the energy needed to heat water when doing the dishes.
Don’t forget to only start a machine once it is full and use the eco mode. If you use this cycle, we recommend using an intensive mode at least once a month to remove any accumulated grease and scale.
My dishes are greasy and a bit cloudy. How can I clean my machine?
If you notice grease marks on your dishes, it's possible that your machine itself contains fat. Here is what you need to do.
1. Unplug your dishwasher and remove all removable parts.
2. Clean the wash arm with some soap and a cloth.
3. Scour the filer with a hard brush soaked with warm water and some soap to remove any bits of food which would be blocking it.
4. Clean the door joint with a sponge and white vinegar.
5. Launch an empty wash programme with two cups of 250ml of white vinegar.
