No animal testing

lapin cosmetique vegan

We want to be very clear:

🚫 None of our products or raw materials are tested on animals.

And it’s going to stay that way, for moral and ethical reasons. Luckily today there are many alternative ways to test if a product is harmful. These new alternative tests are cheaper and more sustainable and of course no animal is harmed. Many labs in France enable this and validate safety and toxicology tests without animal testing.

But we’d like to clarify the laws regarding animal testing because many of you have asked about this.

Even if lots of big brands don’t respect this law, since 2013, animal testing is banned in Europe for all cosmetic productsBut in December 2018, the French General Directorate for Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) decided to make things even clearer on this matter by publicly stating that mentioning "not tested on animals" on a product's labelling is considered to be an allegation.

Putting "not tested on animals" on a product's label, implying that other products on the European market might be tested on animals, is banned.

(Cf. https://www.economie.gouv.fr/dgccrf/cosmetiques-ne-vous-fiez-pas-a-lallegation-non-teste-sur-animaux)

This doesn’t make us "special", it just means that we follow the law. For people who are very well read on this matter, we are aware that this law isn’t perfect and that many brands find loopholes…

This means all labels mentioning that their products aren’t tested on animals aren’t legal even if some companies advocate for harsher restrictions than the current European law.

We think these labels are still useful but they will have to prove their usefulness to the DGCCRF because since December 2018 we are no longer allowed to mention that our products aren’t tested on animals. That is why we don’t have "cruelty-free" or "not tested on animals" written on our labels.

In any case, we want to reassure you that we respect the European law and that none of our products, ingredients or raw materials are tested on animals.
